I’m sure you all knew this was coming—it was by far the most requested thing in my ask box! While watching the VMAs I was thinking of nail ideas. Her looks were outstanding and I knew I wanted to use an idea to post on the eve of next year’s show. I had a hard time deciding which concept to save for that because I’m so excited about all the ideas! And, of course, so many of you wanted to see something related to the infamous Meat Dress so here it is: The Meaticure!
I decided the best way to attempt the abstract quality of meat would be to water marble these (if you aren’t familiar with the technique, there are also several good tutorials on YouTube.) It was a gamble on my part but I think they turned out perfect! It was tricky to get a picture of the details in these, so here’s a larger image. I didn’t want these to be too “cartoonish” or peppermint-like so I stayed away from true reds and whites. I started with a base of Hollywood Scarlet by Sally Hansen Salon (a deep, dark red that takes 2-3 coats). I did the actual marbling with Tender Mulberry by Sally Hansen Maximum Growth and a generic ivory color. I’m not sure if they still make the Mulberry color, but it can only be described as “meaty”. I found it in the family polish stash and it ended up being the make-or-break element for these nails. (If you want to find a similar color, you can see what the original looks like here.)
Once they were dry, I went over them a little more in the ivory color with a toothpick to add some lighter lines of “fat”. Since I wanted to incorporate Gaga’s entire look, I did an accent nail to bring in the colors of her wig. Her wig is a tricky color to pin point. It looks anywhere from white, to grey, to lavender depending on the photo—so I mixed a drop of grey and a drop of lavender into some white, and gave it a teal moon. And, naturally, they needed a little sparkle to mimic her jewelry!
It’s rare that I get to show off my raw talent, but I think these are very well done! Assuming I can keep the Gaga nail magic alive, stay tuned for the other look during next year’s VMAs!
