‘Marry The Night’ Revisited - The Apartment: I mentioned when I did my original design for the Marry The Night video that I may be doing another. There’s so much packed into the video that it’s hard to design something cohesive for just one hand!
Arguably, the most important scene from this video takes place in Gaga’s apartment. The apartment itself is circular—womb-shaped—and covered in the contrasting colors of mint green and blood red; which are seen reoccurring throughout the video (“mint will be very big next Spring”/”they only wore those funny hats to keep the blood out of their hair”). After a very raw emotional breakdown, she collapses into the tub. A moment later she is seen changing her hair color (to mint), and singing the video’s namesake song to herself. This moment is considered her transformation into “Lady Gaga”. Bathtubs representing transformations/baptisms are a reoccurring theme throughout many of Gaga’s videos.
Colors & Materials Used: Mint Sorbet (Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear) striped with Hollywood Scarlet (Sally Hansen Salon). The stripes were created using cut strips of clear tape to make a stencil for the red, over a solid (dry) base of green. Accent nail is a white exaggerated tip (to mimic the porcelain tub), a mint stripe (her hair color), and a silver glitter stripe (Tiara by Orly—to mimic her shoes). I left a “bare nail” gap on this one since she’s, well, nude!
Special Grammy edition nails will be posted next weekend! ”It’s not an egg it’s a vessel!”
