Promotional Photoshoot for ‘The Fame’: In 2008, Gaga began promotion of both her debut album The Fame, as well as her public image.  She was often seen sporting lightening bolt shapes on her face as an overt homage to David Bowie’s influence on her new found interest in pop music.  It was used as the main staple in this shoot by Kane Skennar, which produced some of the most popular images of her early on.
Colors & Materials Used: Lightening yellow base (Sally Hansen Insta-Dri), Shine Of The Times glitter topcoat (Essie), with black nail art pen stripes. Accent nail is black, Celeb City silver (Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear), and Fuchsia Power (Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear).
My jury is still out on those nail art pens.  They aren’t much more precise than a toothpick, but they at least eliminate the constant wiping off/re-dipping part!  I used the glitter coat on these since Gaga’s hoodie is covered in sequins.  Since Shine Of The Times has hints of yellow in it anyway, it looks really great over a yellow base in-person, but it’s not much for a camera flash!
A great tutorial for executing the lightening bolt nail can be found here!
Since Gaga is still laying low, I’ve been tackling some old designs.  Up next: several designs for the Telephone and Judas videos!
