Today’s the day! The VMAs are this evening and Gaga is scheduled to not disappoint! Last year I did a design based off of the Meat Dress. Here’s the look that I’ve been waiting a full year to do: the McQueen gown. (View all click-through links for the full effect!)
Gaga arrived at last year’s VMAs wearing a stunning Alexander McQueen gown (printed with an image from the Renaissance Annunciation by Stephan Lochner), jeweled neckpiece, feather headdress, and an almost color-changing wig. To recreate this look as a nail design, I spared no expensive using gold leaf, real feathers, Swarovski crystals, and even a print-out image!
Thumb: Gold leaf with Renaissance Annunciation image (printed and afixed with a clear topcoat).
Index and Pinky: Glitz (gold) by Orly, Emerald City (green) by revlon, and Divine Wine by Sally Hansen (red), painted to mimic the fabric on the front of the gown.
Middle: Gold leaf coated with Swarovski rhinestones to mimic the neckpiece.
Ring: Mixture of Gumdrop (lavender) by Revlon, grey and white to match Gaga’s wig, sponged-on tip in For Audrey (teal) by China Glaze, and a gold feather accent (real, trimmed-down feather).
I can’t wait to see what Gaga does for this year’s show and what kind of designs I’ll be drawing from it. Enjoy the show everyone!
